{"id":11,"date":"2013-07-31T10:44:28","date_gmt":"2013-07-31T10:44:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.anitabhalla.co.uk\/?page_id=11"},"modified":"2026-02-02T09:31:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T09:31:08","slug":"aboutme","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.anitabhalla.co.uk\/?page_id=11","title":{"rendered":"About Anita"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Anita is a currently Chair of\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bmusic.co.uk\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">B:Music<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202fthe charity that runs Symphony Hall and Town Hall Birmingham, Chair of\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bcu.ac.uk\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Birmingham City University<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Council member <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/councils\/ahrc\/\">Art Humanities Research Council<\/a>, Governor of the\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rsc.org.uk\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">RSC<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Chair of\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/iniva.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Iniva<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and\u00a0Past\u00a0Chair of\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/gbslep.co.uk\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Greater Birmingham and Solihull LEP<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u202f(Local Enterprise Partnership).<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Anita\u2019s media career has been extensive of which she spent over 25 years working with the BBC; from setting up the BBC Asian Network to a News Correspondent, Documentary maker (for which she received several awards) to being Head of Political and Community Affairs in England, then UK Head and Editor of the BBC\u2019s Public Space Broadcasting and President of\u00a0Circom\u00a0(a European wide group of public service broadcasters).<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Anita has a strong commitment to public services and her portfolio in this area ranges from being a Trustee of the\u202f<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrensuniversity.co.uk\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Children\u2019s University<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Commissioner on the Chancellor\u2019s Commission (Warwick University), Vice-Chair of Council at the University of Warwick, Member of Birmingham\u2019s Social Inclusion Commission to being a past Chair of mac (Midlands Arts Centre), non-Executive Director of Birmingham Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s Hospitals NHS Trust, a previous Chair of a Junior and Infant School.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In 2009 Anita was awarded an OBE for services to Broadcasting and Communities.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In 2012 Anita was the High Sheriff for the West Midlands.
